"Low Flying, In and Out of Contact" A 2 day workshop on Kinetic Awareness & Contact Improvisation with Barbara Mueller and Christina Klissiouni.
Dates: 23rd -24th of January, 2010 hours: 9.30am-15.30pm
In the workshop, the first stage of Kinetic Awareness practice, we will explore the movement of the entire spinal column -- cervical/sacral, thoracic/lumbar vertebrae. Incorporating the use of rubber balls to focus upon each area of the spine individually, we will discover our anatomy experientially, gaining somatic knowledge of how each vertebra and area move.
The basic
components of all movement -- space, time and energy -- are observed. Through slow, subtle and gentle movement, we discover the spine's spatial range, its integral relationship one vertebra to another, as well as to the entire body, and the energy/tension relationship required for movement.
With this experiential understanding, we can move safely into improvisation.
The balls that we use are placed like a partner under the various parts of the spine to free it from strain and habitual tension, changing the body’s usual relationship to gravity. The vertebrae are suspended in space and multi-directional movement is facilitated. They provide a focal point bringing organic impression and resulting movement into consciousness. Thus we move into the second part of the workshop practicing skills in Contact Improvisation such as rolling, spiralling, sliding, falling, learning how to listen to our own body and read our partner's body so that we support our dance with ease and flow.
A working knowledge of Contact Improvisation is necessary.
Cost: 165 euro. Registration: 80euro. There is a limited number of places.
