Zen Shiatsu

In Japanese Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’. It is an ancient holistic method for the harmonization of an individual’s energy that developed in the 20th century and is based on traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine as is acupuncture.

Why is it used

Shiatsu is used to bring about the well-being and maximum vitality in the individual, directly influencing the body, mind and spirit and balances the flow of energy and the system regains its abilities for self healing. Shiatsu is used as a supplementary health regimen, without replacing medical help, contributing to the improvement in the quality of the everyday life of the individual and in the prevention of health problems.

Target Clientel

Shiatsu is especially useful in individuals who are engaged in constant bodily or spiritual activity, regardless of their age. It is effective in countering the stress which is responsible for many somatic and psychosomatic dysfunctions, in emotional problems (e.g. depression), muscular-skeletal ailments (e.g. neck, back and knees), menstrual problems, sleeplessness, fatigue, headaches, concentration problems, digestive and respiratory disorders.

The Session

The causes of imbalance in the system are countered by treating the energy channels (meridians) which are connected to the vital organs. In order to regain tone, relaxation and balance, i.e. to maintain the homeostasis of the system, steady pressure is applied with the fingers, palms, wrists, knees and soles, painlessly and safely. In parallel, techniques are employed which motivate the joints, massage, stretching and manipulation – methods used by the physical therapist and the chiropractor.

The session lasts one hour. The recipient, wearing loose clothing that covers the entire body, reclines on a special mattress on the floor. The intensity and quality of the pressure varies with the intensity or lack of energy in the body of the individual. The application is carried out with care, and takes into account the condition and ability of the individual, which the body itself indicates as being necessary for relaxation, opening, toning, support or strengthening. Thus the system is relieved of chronic pains and stress that create serious health problems, the individual receives warmth and care and awakens forgotten senses.
